10th anniversary Claragh Bridge show

Saturday 27th July sees the return of the popular annual 10th anniversary Claragh Bridge cross-community Vintage, Classic and Agricultural show.

Now in its tenth year, the event will be staged on the B175 Ballynahinch Road, Drumaroad outside Castlewellan, starting at 11am.  Signposts leading to show will be displayed from all directions

Classes covering cars, tractors, stationery engines, commercials, motor cycles, buses, lorries, steam engines and various other types of agricultural machinery will be exhibited and entries can also be submitted on the day of the show.  This year’s show will include an indoor crafts fayre and country market as well as various types of stalls, trade stands and car boot stalls.  Drumaroad & Clanvaraghan Community Association will also be running a Community Zone with a series of events on throughout the afternoon.

This year there will be men and ladies Tug ‘O’ War competitions’ , live music, free children’s entertainment with bouncy castle, bungee run and other competitions such as the brick lift, driving the nail, throwing the 56 and pitching the sheaf.  Plus the traditional threshing of corn and a blacksmith’s display.  The Farm Families Health Checks one-stop mobile facility will also be offering free health assessments and advice for anyone at the show.  County Down Rural Community Network will also have their mobile studio to discuss community and rural issues with visitors attending the show.  The traditional Blacksmith’s shop will also be open, having been fully restored by its owner Walter Watson.  Both inside and out will host a display of traditional blacksmith tools and farming machinery from early 20th century.  So come along and enjoy a great day out.  Gates open 11am.

‘Community Zone at Claragh Bridge Vintage Show’

Drumaroad & Clanvaraghan Community Association will be hosting a Community Zone at the 10th  annual ‘Claragh Bridge Cross-Community Vintage, Classic, & Agricultural Show’ to be staged at the B175 Ballynahinch Road, Drumaroad, near Castlewellan on Saturday 28th July 2013.

The Community Zone has always been popular with visitors to the vintage show particularly with families and this year promises to be no exception. There will be a range of events for all ages. This year’s star attraction is the ‘Horsey Do Do Grid’ where you can win a cash prize by guessing which square our community zone horse will do its “do-do!” With a prize pot of £50 for guessing the correct square it’s a little bit of fun and entertainment for all.  Throughout the day Coordinator of the MARA Project Nuala McElroy, will be on hand to give advice and guidance on maximising access to access to services grants and benefits in Rural Areas.

We will also be unveiling our recently created Community Ceramic Art Piece. Facilitated by DCCA and funded by Down Community Arts the art installation was  designed   earlier  in the year by a number of local people - children and adults alike - from Kids Kabin, the Community  Association and members of the Vintage Show Committee.

The popular children’s Entertainer Tommy Trickster from the USA will perform form 12.30-1.30pm and is surely not to be missed.  There will also be a performance from the local Summer Scheme Drama Participants and the artwork created by the younger children will be on display all day.

Those of you who can bake are invited to bring along your best cakes or buns and enter the ‘Bake-Off Competition’ with a prize for best in show. Entries will be a judged by a local professional between 2.45pm and 3.15pm.  Also within the Community Zone you can learn about future activities the DCCA group are pursuing later in the year. So come along to the Community Zone at the Claragh Bridge Cross-Community Vintage Show on Saturday 27th July  and enjoy a great family day out.

With less than three weeks to go all roads will be leading to the forthcoming Claragh Bridge Vintage Club 10th anniversary annual cross-community vintage, classic and agricultural show.  The popular one day show is scheduled to take place on Saturday 27th July from 11.00am at Drumaroad, outside Castlewellan. Vehicle Entries submissions for all types of classic, vintage, agricultural and steam vehicles can be entered and registered on the day of the show.

This year’s 10th anniversary show promises to once again be a popular family day out with a wide range of various types of vehicles, steam engines, events, competitions, exhibition stands, musical entertainment, and much more.   Plus the old style Blacksmith’s Shop will be open once again to the public with a full range of traditional Blacksmith tools and equipment.  The event promises to be a great family day out.

With just over four weeks to go plans are now in full swing for the forthcoming Claragh Bridge Vintage Club 10th anniversary annual cross-community vintage, classic and agricultural show.  The popular one day show is scheduled to take place on Saturday 27th July from 11.00am at Drumaroad, outside Castlewellan. Vehicle Entries are being accepted for this year’s show and insertion into the 2013 show programme.

Submissions for all types of classic, vintage and agricultural vehicles can be submitted, and those vehicle entries who would like their vehicle also published in the 2013 show programme are advised to register early by requesting a vehicle entry form from the club Secretary Mrs. Elizabeth Doyle on 028-44-811518, emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Claragh Bridge preparing for 10th Anniversary Show

Claragh Bridge Vintage Club (Ltd) held their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 24th April in the Blacksmith’s Shop at Claragh.

Chairperson Liam Quinn said that 2012 was one of the club’s busiest ever years since the founding of the club back in 2004.  He added that the 2012 cross-community vintage classic and agricultural show attracted record entries and crowds attending the show at Drumaroad.

Chairperson Liam Quinn stated;

“I wish to thank all officers, members and volunteers who gave so much of their time to the planning and organising last year’s show.  Their efforts have helped raised over £37,000 being raised since 2004 to assist local community, voluntary and charitable organisations.”
